NEC’s IMS Products
spacer
IMS is the central network component for converged multimedia world services. NEC’s IMS is built on industry standard, standardized platform that facilitates new customer experience, and adapted Advanced TCATM platform for many nodes. It lowers total cost of ownership and reduces the time it takes to bring new services to the market. NEC's IMS portfolio consists of 5 basic parts;
  1. SIP session control
  2. SIP Applications
  3. Inter-working with different networks
  4. Mediation and Network management system.

1) SIP session control

MX5840-CS (P-CSCF, I-CSCF, S-CSCF, BGCF)
NEC's MX5840-CS has 3GPP based Call Session Control Function (CSCF), including BGCF and SLF. This server is the heart of an IMS solution, that provides shared multimedia P2P service for mobile and fixed network, so is built with an Advanced TCATM (ATCA) / carrier grade Linux high-performance platform for reliability and scalability. NEC's MX5840-CS supports both IPv4 and IPv6 in a dual stack structure.

MX5640-HS (HSS)
Built on a highly reliable database set on an ATCA platform, the MX5640-HS manages subscriber data for the IMS system. Functionality can be expanded with HLR and MNP modules. The MX5640-HS supports the full range of 3GPP standard interfaces and the subscriber certification system IMS-AKA.

2) SIP Applications
NEC’s ISPF middleware enables us to provide common SIP application services that overcome discrepancies between different hardware and they are in combination with each other to provide multimedia services.

MX7840-PR (Presence)
NEC's MX7840-PR is a high performance presence server that enables IP telephony and multimedia services on a SIP based system to be integrated with standards based presence.

MX7840-CT (Instant Message / Chat)
NEC’s MX7840-CT provides Instant Message services based on SIP/SIMPLE reference specifications. When used in conjunction with the MX7840-PR presence server, it can offer a messaging service based on user location information.

MX7840-PT (Push to Talk over Cellular)
NEC’s MX7840-PT provides Push to Talk services based on reference specification in OMA/3GPP. The service allows sending VoIP packets to multiple users registered on an established group list. It combines with the user presence server and other IMS services.

MX7840-MR (MRF-C, MRF-P)
NEC’s MX7840-MR is the high-level media server, which consists of MRF-C (Media Control function) and MRF-P (Media Processing function). It provides various multimedia services (e.g. guidance, IVR, voice/video conference, unified messaging, streaming service and so on) with high capacity.

And NEC offers other IMS applications;
MX7840-VA (Video Answering)
MX7840-GA (Game)
MX7840-CC (Customer Control)
MX7840-SU (Supplementary Service)

3) Inter-working with different networks

MX5840-MC (MGCF)
The MX5840-MC conducts media gateway control to enable interconnection between the IMS and existing exchange networks (PSTN) / IMS and PBX by 3GPP compliant interfaces. It also enables basic call processing functions for VoIP services such as routing, connection control and resource control.

MX5240-MG (IMS-MGW)
The MX5240-MG Media Gateway converts the TDM-IP bearer, offering media gateway functionality for AMR, EVRC, G.711 and other multimedia codecs. It provides PSTN subscribers with high quality IMS IP phone services by linking signaling gateways on an IP network and MGCF. It switches IP versions and works as an inter-working media gateway within IP telephony networks.

MX5840-SI (IETF-3GPP SIP Interworking)
The MX5840-SI is a gateway that realizes inter-working of services between 3GPP IMS and IETF SIP networks. It facilitates to unify fixed and mobile SIP networks by absorbing discrepancies arising between SIP and IP versions. The MX5840-SI also offers basic functions as a session border controller such as firewalls/NAT, security, etc.

WAG (Wireless Access Gateway) / PDG (Packet Data Gateway)
The WAG/PDG are gateways to facilitate cross connections between public WLAN and 3G mobile networks. Users of 3G mobile phones with wireless LAN function, can enjoy seamless access to expanded IMS based 3G mobile services when they enter certain home and hotspot access points including the transmission of rich contents for broadband, IMS enhanced Peer to Peer services, etc.

MSC-IWF (MSC Interworking Function)
MSC-IWF is the interworking node between CS domain and IMS. This interworking solution minimizes the call control function of MSC and shifts it to IMS. It realizes the most economic infrastructure and early deployment of IMS without additional investment for CS domain even if the packet amount will increase. With this node, both of the CS based voice call / supplementary services by legacy handset user and the IMS rich media services by SIP client user are provided with the call control function of IMS.

4) Mediation and Network management system

NEC provide a mediation, operation and management system that performs unified fault monitoring and network administration for the entire IMS system, connecting to an existing NMS by protocol such as CORBA, SNMP, FTP, etc.
NEC also provides a provisioning gateway that enable users to register, change and delete their service order to IMS system.
